Accept that this is your moment to share your message with your audience
THIS MAY BE BETTER IN EGO SEE SAW
This takes the idea of Force Fidget Freeze and raises it up another level.
I’m keen to share this with you because it’s key to understanding the power that you have when you speak…or turn on your SmartPhone camera, or show up to film a years worth of content in 2 days in front of a full professional crew (do people really do that?)
You don’t need to have a prehistoric response to this…after all, they had no camera phones when woolly mammoths and sabre tooth tigers were roaming the earth.
Your instinctive response is still super important…but you can learn to take it beyond Force | Fidget | Freeze and balance it out to use in your work…in fact, it becomes a real skill and thrill to be able to do it to your own satisfaction.
The title of this blog - “Fail We May, Sail We Must” is a quote my wife Menna shared with when I didn’t feel too much like getting on the train to London for a gig…her favourite DJ Andy Weatherall had it tattooed on his arms.
To me, that’s not a catastrophist sentiment…”ah well, might as well get this over and done with” it’s about the acceptance of failure. It’s part of the process.
There’s lots of motivational types online who preach around this topic. In performance, the process of rehearsal is always about trying stuff out, failing, fall on your butt and get up again with a smile on your face, ready to have another go.
If you’re thinking, “well that’s easy for him to say
I’m also reminded of a time I saw Francis Ford Coppola interviewed…it was in a documentary his wife made about what it was like to film the movie apocalypse Now…
She asks, with all this bad stuff happening..helicopters being suddenly taken away, your leading actor stopping production because he hadn’t read the book or the script or lost the weight you agreed he would lose because he needed to
Once i knew i shouldn’t and even couldn’t run away…in fact once i realised that i had the audience there, in that moment…it was the most incredible way to own that moment.
So it helps to Anchor…so you can make the most of it
