Here is your audience (smileys appear in a column to the right)
And here’s you (terrified Smiley Appears onstage)
Sigmund Freud said that our psyche is made up of Ego, Id and SuperEgo
For the performance Ego See Saw…let’s simplify that down to your Inner Life, Your Outer Life and the overall Goal you’re trying to achieve.
When you force it…you push too hard maybe? You ask too much. A good example of this would be in live theatre where you’ve worked out a gag and the audience laughed one night, perhaps even the first time you tried it…and you try it again…and it doesn’t work…
Stewart Lee has made a lot of this…he will tell the audience “that gag worked better in Norwich…but for different reasons…” or “do you see how the people in the stalls got that gag…but the people up there in the balcony didn’t?” He will then proceed to deconstruct why this happens.
In essence, we could say that you’re trying too hard. When you look back on content that you’ve filmed in this force mode, you realise that yoou’re
